DESIGNER MAKER

Thursday 2 October 2014

The pieces in the Vulcan Collection emerge from my response to intriguing forms, textures and outstanding features with output focused on vessel formats that represent architectural structures.
Through careful manipulation of clay into structures and digital surface treatment, I exploit and highlight the clay`s material qualities whilst maintaining a simple and considered form. Each vessel is a handmade artwork i its own right which. together with the digital intervention of the exposed surfaces, invites the viewer to closely examine the piece and allowing it to reveal its tactile qualities.

Graduate Show 2012

An exhibition showing great diversity of work from fifteen Graduates selected by our Gallery team who in 2011 visited eleven University throughout the country

Sat, 14th Jan 2012 - Sat, 4th Feb 2012

Graduate Show 2012 The Gallery's Graduate Show is a significant annual event in the exhibition calendar. This show is often the first opportunity for those selected from the last crop of graduates to show in a commercial gallery. The Gallery believes that encouraging emerging studio potters is important if they and the craft are to continue to flourish. The selection criteria are straightforward. We are looking for graduates that have developed both skills and a distinctive voice. Those selected meet these criteria as well as evoking a strong emotional response in the exhibition curators.
This year’s exhibition once again shows the rich diversity of ceramic art and craft particularly at a time when anxieties are being expressed about dwindling applicants for ceramic courses and the closure of a number of eminent schools.
For the Graduate Show to be truly successful, we need to maintain a relationship with the participants, wherever practicable, and a number have gone on to show work regularly at the gallery and to feature in our exhibition
